Google Kubernetes Engine Implementation for Spotos

To kickstart the rapid development process, TeraSky Europe created Google Cloud infrastructure using battle-tested production-ready best practices and provided it as code using Terraform. DevOps practices were implemented using GitHub pipelines and Google Cloud features.

The challenge

Spotos, from the start, was looking for a cloud platform to match their needs for rapid development and evolving architecture, having the ability to rapidly scale on demand across multiple regions and provide managed services for the platform

The solution

Spotos' engineering team chose the microservices architecture with the Go language for the backend. The infrastructure was set up on Google Cloud with Kubernetes Engine. CI/CD pipelines used the Artifacts Registry to store Docker images. CloudSQL and Cloud Memory Store managed services were chosen for primary data storage and caching. Frontend was served by Global Cloud Load Balancer.

The results

Using Google Kubernetes Engine and Google Cloud as the main platform to host Spotos' components allowed the team to concentrate all engineering efforts on developing product features instead of implementing underlying infrastructure and making it production-ready. The ease-of-use nature of Google Cloud products and services allowed Spotos to deliver a high-quality product to the market on time.
